The Cades Cove Loop is always an activity that many vacationers do when visiting the Great Smoky Mountains. Folks enjoying the loop always see the beautiful horses grazing the field upon entering, but not many have partaken in the Cades Cove Horseback Riding. It is a fun activity for the whole family to enjoy! Below is all the info you will need when it comes to Horseback Riding in Cades Cove.

Cades Cove Riding Stables

As the only park-authorized riding stable of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Cades Cove Riding Stables is a great family activity to partake in while in the area. You are able to enjoy a guided tour through the national park and see nature in a different light. You are able to do the guided tours as a group of nine so you can enjoy it with the entire family or a group of friends.

The trail rides are excellent for both experienced riders and beginners. The horses are handpicked to suit your skill level and experience. The guides will also make you feel comfortable and at east before riding by doing an orientation with you and familiarizing you with your riding horse.

The guided horseback rides are continual throughout the day and are roughly a one hour ride. They suggest all riders wear a helmet, which they provide free of charge. Children under the age of 16 are required to wear a helmet.

Hours:

They do not accept reservations for trail rides and all rides are subject to the conditions of the trail and weather.

They are open March 3rd through November 30th from 9AM to 4:30PM.

Rates:

Ages 13 and up: $35 per person

Ages 6-12: $25 per person

Carriage Rides

Cades Cove Riding Stables also offers guided carriage rides that are great if you are looking for an adventure for the whole family. You simply get to sit back and relax on the horse-drawn carriage as you travel through the forest. While you are perusing the trails, the carriage drivers will entertain you by telling you tales and the history of the area. They will also point out signs of animal life and native plants. It is a great way to really familiarize with the area and how things were done years ago in the Cades Cove area.

The carriage rides are around 45 minutes long and they depart throughout the day. There is no age limit, but they do limit the rides to six passengers.

They do not accept reservations for carriage rides and all rides are subject to the conditions of the trail and weather.

They are open March 3rd through November 30th from 9AM to 4:30PM.

Rates:

Ages 13 and up: $15 per person

Ages 2-12: $10 per person

Hayrides

You can also enjoy guided hayrides at Cades Cove! The hay-filled trailers are pulled by trucks and they carry you along the Cades Cove Loop Road. The ride is fully narrated and you can see black bears, deer, and other wildlife and incredible vista views.

The guides will tell you tales of the early settlers and explain how they worked the land and lived. The hayrides seat 2 to 65 people and last 2-3 hours depending on how busy the loop is.

Due to the hayrides being so popular, they do accept reservations for groups of 15 or more. All rides are subject to weather conditions.

Hours:

From March 3rd through May 31st, they offer hayrides at 10AM, 12PM, and 3PM.

From June 1st through August 15th, they offer hayrides at 10AM, 12PM, 3PM, and 6PM.

From August 16th through the end of the season, they offer hayrides at 10AM, 12PM, and 3PM.

Rates:

Ages 13 and up: $15 per person

Ages 2-12: $10 per person
